FALLING ACORNS, MIGHTY OAKS

Here Goes Nothing

December was a long month for me. I did manage to get a few notable things done, including the Santa Whiskers cookies below. [Update: I can’t get any of the pictures to display. They were taken with my iPhone XS Max and I’ve converted the file format from .HEIC to .JPEG but no luck as WordPress is still not letting me upload them. I have changed the settings in the camera app so the default is .jPEG. Hopefully it works so I can share pictures from my phone. The best camera is sometimes the one in your hand.]

We were only in school eight days, which made it feel even longer. There was an entire week of no school due to snow, then our Christmas vacation.

Christmas… wore me out, to be honest. I don’t think anyone realizes how draining holidays can be. It’s hard for me to put on my nice face, to have a ton of responsibilities (none of which I manage to do right), and little recognition for doing anything. Add in the complications of pretty much everyone in my family getting sick at some point and you have the recipe for disaster. I managed to contain myself emotionally for most of the break, but I had a few moments that were certainly… questionable. I managed to end the break on a high note. I’ve made it back to my house and I’m trying to prepare myself for work tomorrow. It is a teacher work day, but it is a flex day so it is optional. However, I desperately need to be there so I will probably be the first one in the parking lot waiting for the principal or assistant principal to turn the alarm off. I’m really ready to have a good day to get some work done. I’ve got a lot of cleaning and organizing that I’d like to get done, so I’m looking forward to that.

I’ve unpacked my clothes, but I haven’t put everything away yet. I just wanted it out of the suitcases and sorted into clothes baskets so I could feel as if I had some sort of organizational flow going on. School is open from 8-4 tomorrow, so I should get home in time to piddle around the house tomorrow as well. That should be helpful to see how tidy I can get the house before I’m bombarded with kids again.

I have missed them though, so I’m really looking forward to being back. One thing break made me miss was my routine. I did good about getting up relatively early until I slept in one morning because I wasn’t feeling the greatest. That started the vicious cycle of staying up too late and sleeping in too late. Can’t seem to win that battle sometimes!

I have gotten a lot of crafting done lately, so hopefully I’ll get the camera thing figured out soon enough so that I can share some photos. In the meantime, this one managed to come through.
